Recently I had dermal fillers and wanted to share my experience with you.
But first, if the question is floating in your mind whether you should have lip fillers or not you need to ask yourself a few questions:
- Why do I want lip fillers?
- Do I need lip fillers
- Can I afford to have them done?
As long as you can justify it to yourself why you are having it done and are absolutely sure then let’s continue…
I visited AMS Aesthetics in London. The cosmetic surgeon who performed the procedure, Amar was so lovely and welcoming which put my mind at ease instantly. I had 1ml of Juvaderm filler.
His Instagram is @amsaesthetics if you are curious to look!
Top tip: 1 week before your appointment, take arnica tablets daily. This will help reduce the swelling.
What to expect
Going in, you naturally feel nervous. Straight away Amar asked why I wanted the fillers and then asked to fill in a form – basically saying that you consent, you’re over 21 and whether you have any allergies etc. He then runs through it with you to ensure nothing is missed and explains anything that you may not understand.
Numbing cream is then applied. It feels very strange to talk and you may even dribble a little – very glamorous! After a few minutes, Amar applied another layer of numbing cream.
Then, he took a look at my lips, I explained what I wanted. He listened to what I had to say and then recommended what he felt looked best. But to note, he took everything I said on board and agreed.
Then, pretty much straight to the procedure. It stings. The first few times my eyes watered. After a while the filler itself doesn’t sting but the needle going in and out is quite painful, like a uncomfortable, dragging sensation.
Amar gave me a mirror so i could watch the procedure and when he took a little break I could take a look at any time which was interesting.
My lips had swollen to 4x their size almost instantly which was pretty cool.
Time went on and the pain continued until we were finally done. Amar explained the aftercare details (avoid kissing, straws and spaghetti!) and that was that!
There were some lumps after, Amar explained that this could happen and you just gently massage in curcular motions towards the middle. They then disappear, just like that.
It took about 3 days for the swelling to go down, I also froze a bottle of water and used the ice to reduce the swelling.
My lips are now filler and more even in shape yet very subtle. People hadn’t noticed until I had told them, which I prefer. I’m very pleased with the results and will definitely go back if i feel is needed.
Again, before having fillers really think about why your doing it. So many people do it because of the fashion trends and the pressure from social media. If it helps to boost your confidence then I am all for it, just make sure that it is right for you.
